  • Stress Management: What Are The Healthy Ways To Reduce Stress?

Stress is a part of life. Every human being is subjected to some kind of stress in their everyday life. Stress is basically the body’s response and reaction to the situational demands in life. It’s a ‘fight-or-flight’ moment. Some amount of stress is actually helpful and saves us from physical as well as mental threats to the body. However, the body is expected to come to normal after a moment of stress. And if it’s not so, it’s a serious concern indeed. Stress management, therefore, is necessary to make the most out of stress and nullify the harmful factors involved in stress.

Stress Management involves a range of psychotherapies and other techniques to control the stress level and improve the “everyday functioning” of the body. People with higher stress levels have a “physical health decline”, remain unhappy, get irritated on numerous occasions. Sometimes, they go into depression as well. A stressed-out person also spoils his or her social relationships as an obvious outcome.

Identify the sources of stress to manage stress effectively

To reduce stress, it’s important to identify the sources of stress for effective stress management and the benefits thereof. We cannot beat the bush around, instead, we need to have a targetted strategy with concerted efforts.

In most cases, the true reason or a source of stress is not what it has been thought to be. For example, many a time, too much stress due to thinking of work deadlines is not because of a lack of bandwidth. Maybe, It’s a result of procrastination or the inability to streamline and leverage skills & resources properly.

There are various factors that work as stressors. And, there are multiple sources of stress for different people in different situations. Stress in the workplace is one of the major sources of stress that include long working hours, fear of job loss, discord with colleagues, and also exposure to the electromagnetic fields generated by multiple EMR-emitting wireless gadgets and network boosters.

Do the following things to Identify the real sources of stress –

      • Inspect your “habits, attitude, and excuses” closely.
      • Define your stress – If the stressors are emanating from work life, home, or it’s a personality issue.
      • Accept the responsibility and have a positive approach towards things
      • Look at how you are coping with stress currently – are the ways for coping with stress healthy or unhealthy, productive or harmful, and willingly or forced ones.

Avoid the unhealthy ways of coping with stress

Some ways may temporarily reduce stress but are unproductive in a true sense as they are harmful in a long run. Some people fall prey to some bad habits for instant results and quickly preventing stressors –

Smoking, consumption of alcohol, OTC medicines, drugs, procrastination, avoiding social contact, excessive sleep, overeating or undereating, blaming others, avoiding responsibility, and causing physical harm to others, etc. are some of the unhealthy ways of coping with stress.

Willingness to change is the first step towards effective stress management. We can either change the situation or we can amend the ways we react to the stressors. In this way, we can either avoid and alert the stressors or adapt and accept them to prevent stress and live a healthy life.

How to deal with stress in a healthier way

There are many ways that can dramatically improve the everyday functioning of the body and decrease stress levels. With these listed proven ways of coping with stress, we get complete control of our emotions, thoughts, reactions, the environment, and a routine.

      • Physical Exercise: Some kind of physical activity is necessary for stress-free living. Exercising regularly improves sleep quality, reduces stress levels, helps stay fit, and brings in confidence. Physical exercise also stimulates certain hormones in the body such as endorphins and endocannabinoids that improve sleep quality and reduce bodily pains & anxiousness. Exercise does not necessarily mean weight training or intense physical activity. You can also do – running, cycling, dancing, aerobics, and swimming, etc. but regularly.
      • Healthy Diet: Diet plays important role in our life. A healthy diet promotes healthy living by providing the body the important nutrition, building immunity, maintaining blood pressure, and lessening stress levels.
      • Reducing emf exposure: Our workplaces as well as our homes have multiple sources of electromagnetic radiation (EMR). The devices such as mobile phones, laptops, smart TVs, desktops, wifi routers emit EMR. The infrastructure such as cell phone towers, high-tension power lines, and IoT devices also emit EMR. This EMR from multiple sources creates an electromagnetic field that damages cells in the body. Continuous exposure to EMF causes a higher level of stress including other diseases.

You can use the certified radiation protection products that harmonize the EMF to reduce stress levels. These emf-harmonizing products do not impact the connectivity of the devices.

      • Having enough sleep: A physical and mental stress lower sleep quality and the Inability to have a good sleep again adds up to the stress level. This is a vicious cycle that steals healthiness from life. Inability to sleep and stay asleep for longer periods of time can also mean a serious health disorder – insomnia. EMF exposure also destroys sleep quality. Here again, a healthy diet, regular physical exercise, and the use of radiation protection products can help to a great extent.

    Other ways to relieve stress

Apart from regular physical exercise, a healthy diet, and reducing emf exposure, there are some other techniques that can really help to prevent stress. Relaxation techniques such as Yoga, meditation, and deep breathing exercises greatly help in stress management. Changing behavior, that is, changing the way how we react to stressors has a more direct impact on the stress levels. A positive approach, being patient, and handling situations wisely negate the possible stresses for sure. Socializing also helps especially at workplaces.

  • Fast Heart Rate Treatment: Causes, Symptoms, And Treatment

It’s much important to think of fast heart rate treatment to get heart health back to normal. Many a time our heart beats faster than a normal rate for various reasons. We know that the heart generally beats much faster while having intense physical activity such as exercise. We also experience the racing heart when we are under stress and trauma and while in certain medical conditions. However, if the heart rate is faster even while resting, it does imply serious concerns.

The normal heart rate for any healthy person is 60 to 100 beats per minute (BPM). Above 100 BPM (the resting heart rate) is termed as Tachycardia whereas the BPM below 60 is called Bradycardia. When the heart beats faster, it pumps blood slowly and hence the low blood supply to the body as well as the heart itself depriving the entire body of oxygen.

What Are The Causes of A Faster Heart Rate?

A pounding heart is not a new phenomenon. Many of us experience this due to the fast-paced life in today’s corporate world. Various stress triggers cause irregular heartbeats and there is no need to worry about that if it’s an occasional affair. But, the rapid heartbeats even while the heart is resting is a serious concern that can lead to various health issues including cardiovascular diseases.

The faster heart rate can occur due to the disruption of the electrical conduction system that controls the heart and the causes for that disruption can be –

Anemia, Alcohol abuse, Consumption of caffeinated beverages in excess, Cardiovascular diseases, Certain medications, Exposure to electromagnetic radiation (EMR), Hypertension (high blood pressure), Pregnancy, Smoking, Sudden stress, Substance abuse, Hyperthyroidism, Electrolyte imbalance, Congenital anomalies in the heart, etc.

    Symptoms of Tachycardia (Faster Heartbeat)

Fast heartbeat in normal conditions is discernible through many symptoms. Some people feel their heart is pounding or racing. In tachycardia, the body starves of oxygen and hence it shows the following tachycardia-related symptoms.

      • Palpitation – Irregular heartbeat on having skipped or added an extra heartbeat. It is felt in the chest and neck.
      • Dizziness (Lightheadedness)
      • Fainting – Also known as Syncope
      • Shortness of breath
      • Chest pain – Tightness, pressure, and pain in the chest (Angina)
      • Pain in the jaw, neck, upper back, or arms
      • Fatigue and  confusion
      • In extreme cases, people may experience unconsciousness or cardiac arrest

    Fast Heart Rate Treatment

After someone shows the above symptoms due to the fast heart rate, the first stage of treatment obviously starts with a proper diagnosis. A physician will conduct a few physical as well as laboratory tests such as –

      • Electrocardiogram (ECG): The electrical and muscular activities of the heart, as well as the duration of the heartbeat, are measured through an ECG test.
      • Echocardiogram: This is an imaging test in which the sound waves are used to form an image of the heart to monitor the functioning of the heart.
      • Imaging Tests: There are various imaging tests such as MRI Scan, CT Scan, and Chest X-ray. These tests help doctors to monitor the heart in more detail.
      • Stress Test: A physical stress test is conducted to study the heart activity while the individual is walking on a treadmill.
      • Tilt Table Test: This test monitors the behavior and reaction of an individual’s heart and nervous system to a sudden change in angle.
      • Electrophysiological Testing and Mapping: This test measures the electrical impulses to see if there is an error in the heart circuit. The electrical impulses regulate the heartbeat.

Diagnosis Is Followed By Fast Heart Rate Treatment

Treatment is mainly focused on controlling and getting back the heart rate back to normal by treating the underlying causes as discussed earlier. The individual with tachycardia symptoms may go through the following options of treatment –

      • Ablation Therapy: If the underlying cause is an “extra electrical pathway”, the physicians go with Ablation Therapy and destroy the spot that causes a rapid heartbeat. This is done by “inserting catheters with electrodes via blood vessels into the specific spot in the heart that causes tachycardia”
      • ICD (Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator): In a situation with greater risk, ICD is used to stimulate the heart to restore it to normal heartbeat and rhythm.
      • Vagal Maneuvers: Certain movements such as coughing and holding breath affect the vagus nerve, the nerve that interfaces with and controls the heartbeat. These recommended movements are referred to as vagal maneuvers.
      • Maze Procedure: If the reason for tachycardia is “stray radiations”, maze procedure treatment is recommended. The procedure involves a few incisions in the upper heart. The incisions form scars on healing and restrict the transmission of electrical impulses.
      • Cardioversion: When the other treatment options do not work, the heart is restored to a normal heartbeat by giving an electrical shock.
      • Medications: The above treatments involve medication to restore the heartbeat to normal.

Preventive Measures To Avoid The Possibility of A Faster Heart Rate or Tachycardia

As the famous age-old proverb connotes – “prevention is better than cure”, it’s always beneficial to avoid falling prey to a disease rather than getting into the complications and the episodes of stress and trauma after the occurrence of a disease. What are those a few easy measures to prevent the occurrence of tachycardia at all? Take a look below –

      • Ease on stresses – Learn techniques to cope up with the stress and have a positive approach towards the outer world.
      • Cut on alcohol, nicotine (tobacco consumption), caffeinated beverages, illegal drugs, cough & cold syrups (use cautiously on doctor’s advice only, etc.)
      • Avoid stimulative medications
      • Quit smoking – Smoking has been proved to be one of the main factors for heart-related disease.
      • Do physical exercise regularly
      • Eat healthily.
      • Lose weight – Obese person is prone to many diseases including cardiovascular diseases.
      • Maintain normal cholesterol level and blood pressure
      • Keep the harmful electromagnetic radiation at bay. Use certified radiation protection products to nullify the harm factor. The wireless communication devices generate electromagnetic radiation (EMR). And, this EMR causes a higher level of stress as well as irregular heartbeats including other serious health issues.

  • Causes of Stress: What Are The Sources of Stress?

Stress is our body’s quick, automatic response to the real or imagined threat. Stress sometimes serves a good purpose being a defensive mechanism on situational demand while sometimes it creates anxiety for no reason leading to some serious health issues over time. It also matters most that how we think of things happening to us or in the surrounding environment. To a certain extent, stress is helpful; but persistent stress can harm in a long run.

According to the pan-India survey conducted in 2019 and published by Statista, the young adults in the age group of 20 to 29 are the most stressed in India. The major cause behind this stressed-out youth is “peer pressure, pressure to succeed in academics or work and irregular routine.”

Causes of stress, therefore, can be traced into the disturbed work-life balance, strained interpersonal relationships, unrealistic expectations from life, and negative approach towards things. Exposure to the electromagnetic field generated by wireless communication devices also causes a higher level of stress and fatigue.

On a positive perception, stress helps us to be energetic, alert and focused. Whereas, on the negative perception of things, stress can throw us into depression even though there are no real stress triggers. Stress can be short-term which is not really harmful or long-term which is actually a serious concern for many valid reasons. Long-term stress causes mental as well as physical illness and if not managed it can ruin a life.

    What Causes Stress?

The main sources of stress triggers are – work, money, family responsibilities, health concern, and emf exposure. The last source is an unseen threat yet one of the most dangerous to mankind due to the harmful nature of electromagnetic radiation.

Work: Workplace stress including working for long hours, unemployment, job loss, risk of termination, etc are the major stress triggers in the life of working professionals. Excessive work stress can interfere with life, risks relationships, and reduces the productivity and performance of an individual.

Money: People are more concerned about their finances. Unexpected expenses, bank EMI’s, saving for life after retirement, essential payments such as electricity bills, etc. are some of the stress triggers related to money and financial security. Poverty and debt rank higher among money stress triggers.

Family Responsibilities: Family is the main support system for all of us. People prioritize family responsibilities over other needs. Education of kids, meeting the daily requirements of family members and taking care of elderlies cause stress in a day to day life.

Health Concern: Health is by far the most important thing. We can’t afford to compromise our health and hence, the chronic illness to us and our loved ones causes much stress.

EMF Exposure: Electromagnetic radiation (EMR) by wireless communication devices such as mobile phones, laptops, and wifi routers is an unseen yet unavoidable threat. Continuous exposure to electromagnetic field (EMF) caused by EMR emitting gadgets and equipments cause stress and fatigue. As we can not completely keep these gadgets away owing to the tech-enabled work life, the emr-induced stress is a reality that we can not escape.

  • Causes of Heart Failure: Factors That Lead to Increased Heart Risk

Causes of Heart Failure: Factors That Lead to Increased Heart Risk

Heart failure is associated with a bunch of factors that make the heart weak or too stiff. Heart failure occurs because of its inability to pump adequate blood supply to the body. The human body requires a consistent blood supply to function properly and the heart does the same job by pumping the blood and making it flow throughout the body. Have a quick look below to know the causes of heart failure.

As we age, the blood-pumping ability of the heart slows down; however, this is not the reason for heart failure. The lifestyle factors such as not eating heart healthy foods, physical inactivity, smoking, higher stress level, being overweight increase the risk of heart failure to a greater extent.

Heart failure happens either in the right or left ventricles of the heart. It can also occur in both of the ventricles. Generally, heart failure is classified as systolic (heart muscles become weaker) or diastolic (heart muscles become stiffer).

What are the causes of heart failure?

Some people have issues with the blood-pumping ability of their hearts and making available enough blood to the bodily functions while some have weak or hard heart muscles making less blood flow to the heart. There is always more than one condition behind heart failure. Most often the coronary artery disease (CAD) is the reason for heart failure where arteries that supply blood & oxygen to the heart narrow down. The following conditions may act in combination and having one or more of them greatly increases the risk of heart failure.

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) – This is the most common reason for heart failure. Fatty acids and cholesterols deposit in the heart’s arteries that block or reduces blood supply to the heart muscle. The outcome is chest pain (angina) and if the blood flow is completely blocked the result is a heart attack.

Abnormal Heart Valves – Heart valves do not completely open or close as the heart beats. This makes the heart pump the blood harder than normal to maintain the flow of the blood. Heart valve disorder is a result of infection (endocarditis) which is also caused by birth defects. Hard pumping eventually leads to heart failure.

High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) – High blood pressure makes the heart pump much harder. Over time, the hard pumping enlarges and weakens heart chambers. Therefore, high blood pressure (HBP) develops a greater risk of heart failure and hence the physicians suggest to maintain blood pressure below 130/80 mm Hg.

Heart Muscle Disease – There are multiple reasons for heart disease. In dilated cardiomyopathy, heart muscles become thin, and in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, heart muscles become thick because of which the heart doesn’t pump blood well. In myocarditis, heart muscles get inflamed that again affects the heart’s blood-pumping ability. Consumption of drugs, alcohol, and infections can cause heart muscle disease.

Congenital Heart Disease – Sometimes, heart chambers and valves are defective since birth. Therefore, to keep blood moving, the other parts of the heart need to work harder. Over time, the heart is unable to pump an adequate supply of blood to the body resulting in heart failure.

EMF Exposure – Longer exposure to the electromagnetic field generated by wireless communication devices creates structural and functional disorders in the cardiovascular system such as irregular heartbeat and heart palpitations. This may lead to myocardial infarction (heart attack) by “nuclear changing of cardiomyocytes”. >> Shop for certified radiation protection products here >>

Lung Disease – A severe lung disease increases the heart’s work to supply the available oxygen throughout the body.

Sleep Apnea – A sleep disorder in which breathing pauses for while frequently. A frequent pause in breathing causes severe fatigue and can also lead to heart failure.

Diabetes – Diabetic patients have elevated lipid levels in their blood and therefore they develop the risk of atherosclerosis (deposits of cholesterol and fatty acids in the heart arteries) and hypertension. Both of the above conditions can cause heart failure.

Obesity – The heart of the obese person needs to pump harder to circulate the blood. Hard pumping causes heart failure over time.

How to keep the heart healthy – Indicators that predict the heart health

A heart rate that varies from person to person generally predicts the condition of our health. The heart rate between 60 to 100 is considered good but doctors prefer it to be between the range of 50 to 70 which implies excellent physical condition. So, it’s of paramount importance for us to have a healthy heart that would help us live a healthy life. There is a lot that you can do to keep your heart healthy. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) that primarily contain heart disease generally correlate with an individual’s lifestyle that mainly includes diet habits, physical activities, and stress levels. Given the fact that the majority of young adults and adults are vulnerable to CVDs, precautionary measures are the smart choice to prevent heart disease.  The following are the primary indicators that predict heart health. These below-listed indicators will clear if the individual is at the possible risk of heart disease and basis them, one can improve heart health.

    • Blood Pressure – The blood pressure, both systolic and diastolic blood pressures, is a primary indicator of how healthy your heart is. Systolic blood pressure is the pressure created while pumping the blood through arteries and diastolic blood pressure is the pressure between the pumping beats when the heart rests. A reading below 120/80 is not good for heart health and considered a warning sign that implies one should take corrective measures asap.
    • Physical Activity – Sedentary lifestyle is one of the main reasons behind a range of cardiovascular diseases. Sitting for a long time that too regularly in a day to day life makes us fall prey to the risk of heart disease. A sedentary lifestyle leads to weakened and inefficient heart muscles that means the heart will pump less blood resulting in faster heartbeats and hence the higher blood pressure.

Regular exercise at least for 30 to 40 minutes for at least 4 days a week can help. Also, having enough body movement, even a short walk, is helpful. To check if your heart is strong enough, take heart health tests – take an exercise cardiogram to map the heartbeats at varying speed on a treadmill, or climb 4 flights of stairs in a minute at a fast pace. If you are able to complete it without stopping to take a breath, your heart is well.

    • Healthy Diet – Sufficient intake of fruits and vegetables in each serving of meal on a daily basis is a good indicator of a healthy heart. Have a look at the dietary tips given further in this article.
    • Body Mass Index (BMI) – The ratio of body fat to the height of the person. The BMI is calculated to know if the person is underweight, obese (between 25 to 29.9), or overweight (greater than or equal to 30). The higher the BMI, the higher are the chances of having heart-related problems such as cardiovascular diseases. The overweight and obese persons are at higher risk of heart disease.
    • Smoking Status – Smoking causes stiffness to arteries and blood vessels that make pumping of blood harder while passing the blood through the entire body. A person with a smoking habit is 8 times more likely to have cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Also, avoid secondhand smoke – the non-smokers that are exposed to others’ smoking at the workplace or home.
    • Family history – If any of your close family members had heart diseases in the recent past, you also have the same risk. The risk gets aggravated if you are a man and age is above 45 or a woman and age is above 55. Also, if your father/brother and mother/sister had developed heart disease before their age of 55 and 65 respectively, you have a high risk of heart disease.

Healthy heart food – Dietary tips to keep your heart healthy

Diet is the most important thing for our overall wellbeing and it has special significance if we want to have a healthy heart. From increasing fruits and vegetable intake to reducing unhealthy fats, a healthy heart diet is a checklist for all of us. Let’s take a look at –

    • Do not overeat. Overeating leads to an unnecessary increase in the intake of calories. Instead, you can eat nutrient-rich foods with a bigger portion and low calories. Having small plates for meals can help.
    • Eat more fruits and vegetables which will help you cut down on calorie intake. You can prefer fresh or frozen as well as low-sodium canned fruits and vegetables to have good results.
    • Increase the amount of whole grains in your diet and avoid refined products. Whole grains are good sources of fiber and the nutrients that help in regularizing blood pressure. Some whole-grain products you can choose from are as follows- brown rice, buckwheat, and barley, whole-wheat flour, high-fiber cereal, oatmeal, whole-grain bread, etc.
    • Limit or avoid unhealthy fats. The saturated and trans fats contribute to high blood cholesterol that in turn creates plaques called atherosclerosis in the arteries which increases the risk of stroke and heart attack. We can however take a minimal quantity of saturated fat, say 5 to 6% of daily calorie intake but must avoid trans fat. You can prefer – olive oil, vegetable and nut oils, canola oil, nuts, seeds, avocados, etc.
    • Prefer low-fat protein. Skim milk, skinless chicken, fish, soybeans, flaxseed, walnuts, legumes, and canola oil are some of the good sources of low-fat protein. You can avoid meat that contains high-fat protein.
    • Reduce sodium intake. Eating large amounts of salt which is a source of sodium can lead to high blood pressure. Doctors suggest only a tablespoon of salt intake in a day for better results.

    More About Cardiovascular Disease

According to the world heart federation, “Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), commonly referred to as heart disease or stroke, are the number 1 cause of death around the world and 1 in 3 deaths globally are a result of CVD”. The data available on the WHO site says “Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the number 1 cause of death globally”, which turns out to be 31% of all deaths worldwide annually,  taking an estimated 17.9 million lives each year. Also, In 2016, 1 in 4 deaths in India caused by cardiovascular disease. Another report by the Global Burden of Diseases in 2016 says 1.7 million Indians died due to cardiovascular disease out of the world death toll of 17.3 million. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is actually a collective name for the group of heart-related disorders that include the following diseases:

    • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
    • Cerebrovascular disease (stroke)
    • Coronary heart disease (heart attack)
    • Peripheral vascular disease
    • Rheumatic heart disease
    • Heart failure
    • Cardiomyopathies.
    • Congenital heart disease

  • Mobile Tower Radiation And Its Impact On Human Health

    Radiation emitted by Mobile Towers

There are two types of radiation – one is ionizing radiation which are to X-rays and the other is non-ionizing radiation which is gadget radiation like mobile phone radiation, laptop radiation, desktop radiation, tablet radiation, smart Tv radiation, radiation of wi-fi routers, network boosters, etc., and harmful radiation from mobile towers around our homes and workplaces. Ionizing radiation is high-frequency radiation that is known to cause cancer. On the other hand, low-frequency non-ionizing radiation is also a threat to our health. It may, too, become the cause of health issues like cancer and brain tumors when the human body is exposed to it for long durations of time.

    Did you know?

WHO has also stated these radiations can have a negative impact on the human body and may also become a cause of cancer if exposed to them for long periods of time, putting them into the same category as fumes and exhaust. Apart from this solid proof by the WHO of the link between electromagnetic radiation and cancer, there are some incidents that have also confirmed the correlation between mobile tower radiation and serious health issues in humans. WHO has put these radiations in the 2B category which classifies the reasons to cause Cancer.

Also, cancer specialists(Oncologist), scientists, and other doctors too have no doubt about the dangers of mobile radiation and mobile tower radiation. They all agree to the adverse side effects of radiation emitted by wi-fi gadgets including cell phones, cell phone towers, and all other wireless gadgets used for communication.

Health Hazards Caused By Mobile Tower Radiation

Not only cancer but other harmful effects of mobile radiation like lower sperm count, birth defects, increase risk of heart attack are the direct long-term results of electromagnetic radiation produced by mobile phones and mobile towers. As the number of mobile phone users increased, the installation of mobile towers also saw an increasing trend so as to cater to the vast majority of mobile users. Given the necessity of connectivity, mobile phones are now an unavoidable part of our life. In our homes and at the workplaces, we need a mobile phone for various purposes. 24/7 proximity with this multipurpose wireless device makes us continuously exposed to the radiofrequency electromagnetic field (RF-EMF). And the outcome is higher stress and fatigue, irritation, poor sleep quality, headache, and many more short-term issues.

Research published in biomedical and life sciences journal literature, USA points out that the RF-EMF has “deleterious effects on sperm parameters (like sperm count, morphology, motility), affects the role of kinases in cellular metabolism and the endocrine system, and produces genotoxicity, genomic instability, and oxidative stress”.

    Where does India stand?

India is the country that hosts almost one-fifth of the world population, the reason behind the huge base of mobile phone users in India. These mobile phones transmit and receive signals to and from the mobile towers spread across the country forming a connectivity network. Mobile towers emit harmful electromagnetic radiation and the globally permissible safe limit of radiation level is 0.5 milliwatt per meter square. In India, this limit was badly surpassed to reach 900 times higher in 2013 according to the report in Hindustan Times.

If we talk about India’s current mobile tower radiation level, we have a radiation exposure limit of 9.2 watts per meter square which is still higher than countries like China (0.4 w/sq m) and Russia (0.2 w/sq m).

Indian Judiciary Took The Mobile Tower Radiation Seriously

According to a report in the Business Standard, the Supreme Court of India asked the government-owned telecommunication company BSNL to remove the mobile network tower that caused cancer to a resident of Gwalior city. The Supreme Court passed this judgment when cancer patient, Harish Chand Ravat, a domestic helper in Gwalior, pleaded to get the mobile tower removed as he claimed that it was the reason behind his sickness. The mobile tower was installed less than 20 meters away from the house where he was working. This was the first time in India when the highest judiciary admitted that low-frequency electromagnetic radiation (EMR) from the mobile towers can indeed cause deadly diseases in humans.

In another such incident reported by Hindustan Times, three mobile towers were installed in the neighborhood of C-Scheme luxury apartments in Jaipur in 2003. At first, two brothers from an area nearby were diagnosed with brain cancer. In 2011, the inter-ministerial committee recommended reducing the exposure of electromagnetic radiation to 450 MW/sq m. Up till now, seven people living in the radiation-affected neighborhood of Jaipur have been diagnosed with cancer.

How can we protect ourselves from Mobile Tower Radiation?

Just like mobile phones, mobile towers are also equally harmful to our health. The low-frequency electromagnetic radiation is continuously eroding our health and exposing us to greater health risks. If we want to protect ourselves from Mobile Tower Radiation, we need to employ some precautionary as well as curative measures.

Ensure mobile tower installation beyond the standard safe distance from the place, generally home and office where you spend most of your time. As per the studies, mobile phone towers within the range of 400 meters can cause adverse impacts on human health.

Given the technological exigencies in the wirelessly connected world, we sometimes may not have the option of where the mobile tower should be installed. Therefore, we can take resort to some curative instant solutions such as the certified radiation protection products by Environics. Envirochip and Enviroglobe are unique and credible products that provide us all round protection from mobile tower radiation. The radiation protection technology implemented in these products changes the nature of electromagnetic radiation from constant waveform to random waveform thus making radiation ineffective to human health.

  • Radiation Adversely Affects Children’s Immunity

One of the most undeniable truths of today is as kids learn how to walk and speak, they also learn how to unlock mobile phones and iPad. With the availability of various Over the Top (OTT) platforms on mobile phones and tablets, kids have become vulnerable to radiation risks. Owing to many pieces of research conducted on the topic, we know the following:

    • Children absorb EMR at a higher rate
    • Digital dementia is a common feature among school children
    • Reduce the time of access to EMR emitting devices

Radiation Risk Was Not A Serious Issue Till Recently

Various parties have always underplayed the effects of radiation from mobile phones and other wireless devices. But the truth never hides.

Devices like mobile phones, wi-fi, tablets, and smart televisions, when they function, emit radio waves called Electromagnetic Radiations (EMR). The International Agency for Research on Cancer classified Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR) as a possible human carcinogen in 2011. Since then, there has been increasing interest regarding human exposure to RF‐EMR sources and potential health effects.

Exposure to EMR Creates Serious Health Problems for Children

Studies have shown that children when exposed to EMR absorb more of the radiation when compared to adults because the tissues of their brains are more absorbent, their skulls are thinner and their relative size is smaller. Constant exposure to EMR poses a greater threat to the developing brain and nervous system. It also increases the risk of cancer and loss of immunity. The average latency time between the first exposure and diagnosis of a tumor can be decades. And thus tumors induced in children may not be diagnosed until well into adulthood. A modern-day epidemic Digital dementia is commonly seen among school kids.

Global Research on The Seriousness of EMR Exposure

A 2010 study of mobile phone radiation noted that “in general and on average, children suffer a higher exposure of their brain regions than adults.”  This is because children have proportionally smaller heads and brains, yet receive the same levels of cell phone radiation as adults.

Researches have also suggested that mobile phone exposure could affect children’s behavior. Children constantly in the vicinity of radiation display hyperactive nature. They also have emotional or behavioral problems, including trouble getting along with other kids. A 2014 article reviewing studies on children and their mobile phone use found that the younger the child, the greater the risk of brain cancer and brain tumors.

The Way Ahead – Approach and Solutions

Rather than panic, parents should use this information as a reminder to limit their children’s screen time. Also, we can limit the use of mobile phones and other similar gadgets by children. Most services provided by the OTT platforms are top-notch but their end objective grabs new eyeballs retaining the existing member base. As parents, we have to take preventive measures for our kids and limit their exposure to EMR. Such measures entail some basics like keeping a safe distance from your mobile phone, reducing the time they spend on wireless devices, and striking a balance between the online and offline realms. A comprehensive list detailing all the tips and tricks a parent can take to limit their child’s exposure to EMR is a bookmark that should be a part of every individual’s parenting handbook.

Why is mobile phone radiation harmful to us?

Mobile phones work on connectivity through wireless satellite signals like wifi as well as Bluetooth technology. Smartphones have all these connectivity features by default and that’s why all cell phones emit electromagnetic waves, low-frequency non-ionizing radiation.

Dr. Manjari Tripathi, HOD of the Neurology Department, AIIMS, New Delhi shared, “We have seen headaches, sleep disturbances, memory disturbances, foggy mind, irritability, impulsiveness, hand pain, neck pain, poor vision and loss of vision, etc., as a result of excessive use of mobile.”

The electromagnetic frequency or radiation from a device is used for connectivity with other devices in order to make calls and access the internet. We carry cell phones with us and are constantly exposed to electromagnetic radiation. The answer to why is mobile phone radiation harmful lies in the fact that the radiation from wireless gadgets is of a different nature as compared to the natural frequency of the human body. The waveform from wireless devices is constant in nature while the waveform from the human body is random in nature.

It is not the amount of radiation from a device that harms us, it is the nature of radiation that is dangerous as it is not compatible to the human body.

Constant exposure to mobile radiation may cause serious biological disorders and diseases over a long time.

The research done in the field has confirmed that electromagnetic radiation is the main reason behind most modern-day lifestyle diseases like short-term memory loss, loss of concentration, stress, fatigue, sleep deprivation, and compromised immunity.

How harmful are Mobile Radiation to us?

In 1896, the ill-effects of radiation were first seen when Nikola Tesla experimented by exposing his fingers to X-rays that resulted in burns. In 1927, we got significant evidence when Hermann Joseph Muller discovered the correlation between radiation and cancer risk. This research won Muller the Nobel prize in 1946.

Apart from all the researches and clinical tests that have confirmed the impact of EM radiation on human health, some of the common side effects of radiation exposure are mentioned below:

    • Higher stress & fatigue – Adults are experiencing higher stress nowadays and this can also lead to increase cholesterol, blood sugar, risk of cardiovascular.
    • Poor sleep quality – Anxiety disorder is commonly found in people having poor sleep quality and in the long run, this can trigger mania and bipolar depression.
    • Headache – Constant headache leads to migraines, irritation, lower productivity, and creativity at the workplace.
    • Weakened immunity – Being constantly surrounded by radiations weekends our immune system and due to which we are prone to always catch a cold, our tummy is often upset, wounds are slow to heal and feel tired all the time.
    • Fertility issues – High radiation can destroy some or all of the eggs in the woman’s ovaries and can result in infertility or early menopause.
    • Short-term memory loss – In a tech-enabled lifestyle, we are surrounded by many radiation sources and mobile phone radiation occupies a great share of it which affects our memory and causes confusion or decreased alertness.

The above-mentioned are some of the health problems that resulted from excessive use of mobile phones. Many of us have been experiencing one or more such issues due to exposure to cell phone radiation.

In a tech-enabled lifestyle, we are surrounded by many radiation sources and mobile phone radiation occupies a great share of overall radiation risk.

In May 2011, IARC – The International Agency for Research on Cancer, a WHO agency has classified electromagnetic radiation as ‘Possibly Carcinogenic’.

As in the past few months of the Covid-19 pandemic, this year, we have seen kids using mobile phones for online classes due to the closing of schools in lockdown and the likewise reports of issues caused to children’s health since the screen time has greatly increased. Kids taking school classes online have been complaining about constant headaches, irritation, fatigue, and stress.

What is Government doing to mitigate the risks of Mobile Radiation?

With help of scientists and big corporates governments across the globe are initiating laws and regulations to control the use of mobile phones. The new National Legislation and agency for health in France has passed a law in 2015, banning the use of Wi-Fi and all wireless devices in nursery schools while in Belgium Phones designed for children under 7 years old are prohibited from sale and total Advertising Ban on cell phones aimed at children younger than 14. Many other countries like Spain, Israel, Italy, Canada have passed similar laws against radiation.

In order to spread awareness and minimize human exposure to radiation, the corporate world and governments across the globe are coming up with rules and regulations.

You can read more about the above-mentioned global awareness of radiation on the above-mentioned links.

    Solution available for radiation protection

    Self-restraint
Self-restraining yourself from the use of mobile phones and other wireless gadgets is the best solution to be safe from all the harmful effects on health due to mobile radiation. However, things are a bit difficult in today’s digital life the IoT devices, wireless communication devices, and related infrastructure is here to stay with us forever and we can’t escape this reality and what the Covid-19 pandemic has given rise to.

Another solution we have is to use radiation protection technology to protect our life from harmful electromagnetic radiation.

    1. EnvirochipEnvirochip is a kind of fix-and-forget solution which can be fixed on personal devices including mobile phone, laptops, tablets. It changes the nature of radiations making it non-bio-effective for humans.

    2. Enviroglobe It is a 360-degree approach to complete radiation protection that nullifies radiation from internal as well external sources like radiation like mobile towers, routers, boosters etc.

    3. EnviroglobeIt is the only mobile cover with radiation protection technology with a built-in Envirochip, it makes sure you stay safe from the ill effects of radiation while your phone stays safe from any unforeseen circumstance of damage.

Ajay Poddar, MD, Syenergy Environics has also talked about the joint research with AIIMS, Delhi – “For our study with AIIMS, we chose to evaluate the EEG (electroencephalogram) which monitors the electrical activity in the brain. There are basically four waves that emanate out of our brain. There are alpha, beta, theta, and delta waves generated from our brain and they represent different activities of the brain. We studied the implication. We chose a statistical size of 30 volunteers and picked a very sophisticated instrument. We made people talk on the phone for 5 minutes without the EnviroChip and then with the EnviroChip. We gave them rest and checked their brain activity.”
