Fifth Generation or 5G is the newest mobile phone technology that is deployed widely in 2019. It is still in its growth stage and the developing countries getting the requisite infrastructure for widespread usage of the technology. It is expected to enhance performance and introduce many new applications. It is an evolution in telecommunication. To allow better performance, 5G shall offer higher frequencies to 3.5 GHz. The greater frequencies might be new to mobile phones but they are used commonly in other applications such as body scanners and radio links. It is not yet clear to the scientists what will be the long-term 5g radiation effect but the primary understanding reveals it will have the same or more adverse effects on the body as well as nature.
Opportunities and challenges of 5G
5G allows transportation of a huge volume of data quickly and minimizing response time. It will allow instant connectivity to several devices. The possibilities provided by 5G may offer a lot of benefits such as medical and military research that can benefit to access high gigabit connectivity. However, hospitals, the military, banks, and police use wired connections for necessary communication, especially security reasons.
As 5G is more complex and needs sensor coverage, it costs more to deploy compared to earlier mobile technologies. Questions are unanswered regarding what is 5G and whether it impacts the environment and human health and whether it provides good money value or whether it is secure.
Effects of 5G and Health
5G is the newest wireless technology that can transmit data between Bluetooth devices and mobile phones. It produces energy known as electromagnetic radiation. 5G uses greater frequencies compared to earlier wireless networks such as making it more efficient and making it faster. 5G such as Electromagnetic frequencies produce an area known as EMF or electromagnetic field. Many people think that EMFs have adverse health effects. There is also a concern about the 5G radiation effect.
All mobile phone technologies use electromagnetic radiation that has led people to think about enhanced health risks such as developing cancer. However, there is no such evidence that can be conclusive to think that 5G might cause cancer.
The magnitude and range of potential impacts of the 5G radiation effect are not researched completely though there have been biological impacts reported with its exposure. They include changed gene expression and effects on skin and other systematic effects like on immune function.
Endnote
Regardless of whether there is natural radiation coming from the earth’s core or radiation emitted from wireless communication devices, there is a need to protect mankind from adverse effects. People should live in healthier and safer spaces for people. Several technologies have been developed for negating the harmful effects of manmade and natural radiation.
